System identification for the control of WAAM manufacturing processes

Motivation:

  • Process states not directly measurable or difficult to measure

  • Non-linear system behavior

  • Close coupling of process variables

  • Welding power source determines process behavior

Objective:

  • Real-time capable process description for the control of WAAM processes

Solution approach:

  • Variant 1:

    • Gray box model of the manufacturing process

    • Black box model of the production plant (identification in the closed control loop)

  • Variant 2:

    • Entire process description as a black box

    • Evaluation of the input-output behavior (process knowledge is not used)
