Plasma seminar held successfully: Focus on scientific exchange

Researchers from Clausthal and Göttingen met at the CZM at the end of January to discuss the potential applications of cold plasmas. Collaborative projects are an important objective

The recent meeting was attended by 30 researchers from the working groups of the Clausthal Center for Materials Technology and the Institute for Physical Technologies (working group of Prof. Wolfgang Maus-Friedrichs), the Institute for Mechanical Process Engineering (working group of Prof. Alfred Weber) and the University of Applied Sciences Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen (working group of Prof. Wolfgang Viöl). In addition to an exciting block of lectures on the application of non-thermal plasmas for the reduction of metal oxides, the diverse applications of non-thermal plasmas were impressively demonstrated by lectures on topics such as "Plasma polymerization of lignin using atmospheric plasma" or "Plasma reduction of manganese ions in aqueous solution".

The meeting forms a regular exchange between Clausthal and Göttingen plasma researchers, which takes place alternately at the participating institutions. A side effect of this scientific exchange is the development of new ideas for joint DFG projects. In fact, the first preliminary experiments aimed at these collaborations are already underway and exciting results can be expected.
