In order to minimize resources and process steps, the single-stage production of sandwich components with local reinforcements is being investigated, using a three-layer composite of steel, glass fiber-reinforced polyamide and steel. The challenges lie in the development of a safe, single-stage thermo-mechanical joining and forming process with a focus on process engineering and materials science issues.
