Sandwich HybridGlass
Development and characterization of innovative glass/polymer hybrids.
The aim of the project is to develop innovative products made of glass/polymer sandwich composites and the necessary manufacturing processes. With these material composites, new property profiles are to be realized that cannot be achieved with the material groups glass or plastic alone. The basic design of these sandwich structures consists of flat glasses as cover layers of polymer cores, whereby, in contrast to bonded composite structures, insoluble bonds are formed via the chemical solution approach. The use of different types of glass and polymers, as well as additives in the core material and in the boundary layers with nanoscale particles, together with the choice of material thicknesses and disc spaces, forms the basis for a comprehensive system concept. A prerequisite for the realization of the project goals with regard to the product properties is the development of the associated manufacturing processes. In addition to this process engineering part of the task, the testing techniques for the new material composites form another separate focus of the R&D activities. The target market for the new products is primarily defined as building services engineering.
